1940 LZCC Springs.

My ’40 Continental Cabriolet rear spring is not covered and does not have clamps. In the Lincoln Parts Manual part numbers 06H-5560-A, C, D and E do not have a number for spring clamps listed. My rear spring (individual springs) are shifting a bit and I’m wondering if I should realign them?

  1. Hi Vic, welcome to the Forum. All the Club members are onboarding now. Everyone has been invited via email but so far only about 25 members have logged on successfully so please be patient waiting for a response. In the meantime could you post a picture of your current rear spring and I will share it with Jerry Richman and see what he has to say about it. Cheers, Michael

  2. My 40 LZ, had special dimpled springs, without covers, rubber inserts in dimples, but also
spring clamps just like any V-8 Ford. The springs would twist and move without them. I had
to reposition occasionally. I even tried exhaust clamps at one time. ( I drove my car quite a bit). I would realign and clamp.

  3. Thank you Vic. I’m glad you like the site. Hopefully, members will participate and we can build a little community here.

I will give Jerry a call later today.

Also try my 1940 Lincoln Continental registry website at 1940lzcc.org. I think you will enjoy this one as well. Cheers Michael.

  4. For those of you who might be interested, here’s an update on my ’40 LZCC rear spring problem. I found out that Lincoln does not list “spring clamps” #5330 for the ’40 and ’41 LZCC.
The individual springs in the rear spring assembly were spreading outward so, I found a rear spring from a ’46 Ford and installed them on the ’40. They fit so now the spring should be ok. I could not fine an explanation as to why Lincoln did not use them on the ’40 & ’41?
